IT USES THE SENSOR AND ELECTRONICS BOX (E-BOX) FROM THE AN/PSS-14 HANDHELD MINE DETECTOR TO DETECT SURFACE LAID, PARTIALLY BURIED AND BURIED METALLIC, LOW-METALLIC AND NON-METALLIC EXPLOSIVE HAZARDS (EH). THE AMDS ALSO HAS THE ABILITY TO MARK DETECTED EH AND/OR THE CLEARED PATH. THE THIRD CAPABILITY OF THE AMDS PROVIDES NEUTRALIZATION OF THE DETECTED EH BY EMPLACING A NEUTRALIZER, IN THE FORM OF AN ARRAY OF SHAPE CHARGES, ABOVE THE DETECTED AND MARKED EH. THE OPERATOR WILL THEN MANEUVER THE AMDS A SAFE DISTANCE AWAY PRIOR TO INITIATION OF THE NEUTRALIZER AND SUBSEQUENT DETONATION OF THE ARRAY, THEREBY NEUTRALIZING THE EH. |
