Rien Poortvliet was a ‘drawing storyteller’. As a self-taught artist with his own unique stamp, his paintings and water colours were highly successful for many decades. The drawings told the story, with but a caption at most.

This provided the blueprint for no less than nineteen books, of which Gnomes gained the most popularity. In line with his success, Rien Poortvliet grew increasingly popular and his diaries and calendars continue to be coveted today. This puzzle by Jumbo honours the Gnome books created by Rien Poortvliet.
